Innovation, education and international collaboration come together this summer at the WISER Summer School, hosted by Halmstad University and organised within the HEROES European University alliance.
The programme, titled WISER – Wicked Games for Wicked Problems: Empowerment through Game Design, brings together students from across Europe, Canada and Argentina to explore how game design can be used to respond to real social challenges.
This year, the WISE4WOMEN – Financial Intelligence of Immigrant Women for Independent Stability and Empowerment project is part of this international learning experience, offering students the opportunity to work directly with one of the project’s key results: the WISE4WOMEN Financial Intelligence Competence Framework.
Using the framework as a starting point, participants will design educational board games focused on financial literacy, economic empowerment, financial stability and social inclusion. Particular attention will be given to the financial challenges that can affect women with immigrant backgrounds.
By transforming financial concepts into interactive learning experiences, the Summer School creates an opportunity to explore new and engaging ways of making financial education more accessible. Game-based learning can encourage participation, discussion and practical problem-solving, while allowing learners to approach complex subjects in a more interactive environment.
The programme also represents an important milestone for the project. The educational games developed by the students will contribute to the first pilot implementation of the WISE4WOMEN Financial Intelligence Competence Framework.
Their ideas, international perspectives and feedback will provide valuable insight into how the framework can be translated into practical learning tools and how it can respond to different educational and cultural contexts.
Running in parallel with the Summer School, the project’s partners will also participate in a Transnational Project Meeting. During the meeting, partners will present the project and the competence framework, mentor student teams and contribute to panel discussions and exchanges throughout the programme.
The WISER Summer School shows how research, education and creativity can work together to address complex social challenges. By combining financial education with game design, WISE4WOMEN is exploring new ways to transform knowledge into practical, engaging and inclusive learning experiences.
The results of this collaboration will contribute to the further development of the project’s educational resources and support the project’s broader goal of strengthening financial confidence, independence and inclusion among immigrant women.
