Financial confidence is not only about knowing how to manage money. It is closely connected to independence, security and the ability to make informed decisions in everyday life.
For many immigrant women, moving to a new country often means having to understand an entirely new financial system. Everyday tasks such as opening a bank account, managing a household budget, using digital payments, understanding taxes, saving money or recognising financial fraud can become much more difficult when combined with language barriers, unfamiliar institutions and limited access to clear information.
These challenges can affect not only financial stability, but also confidence and participation in everyday social and economic life.
The WISE4OMEN – Financial Intelligence of Immigrant Women for Independent Stability and Empowerment project was created to respond to these needs by making financial education more accessible, practical and relevant to the realities faced by immigrant women.
Through the project, the European partnership works to develop learning resources and practical tools that can support women in understanding key financial concepts and applying them in real-life situations. Topics such as budgeting, banking, digital payments, consumer rights, savings, taxes and protection against fraud are all important parts of building stronger financial awareness.
However, the objective of the project goes beyond simply providing information.
Financial education can give women the confidence to ask questions, compare options, understand their rights and make decisions that better reflect their own needs and priorities. It can also contribute to greater independence and help reduce vulnerability when dealing with unfamiliar financial systems.
WISE4WOMEN also promotes the idea that financial literacy should be part of lifelong learning. Financial environments continue to change, especially with the growing use of digital services, online banking and new payment methods. Supporting people in developing the skills needed to navigate these changes is therefore increasingly important.
For immigrant women, financial confidence can represent an important step towards greater stability and stronger participation in the communities in which they live.
When women understand how financial systems work, know their rights and feel confident in managing their resources, they gain more than knowledge. They gain greater freedom of choice, stronger security and more opportunities to shape their own future.
